Rodrigo Valenzuela

BiographyRodrigo Valenzuela is a Seattle-based artist and the winner of the 2013 Stranger Genius Award in visual art. He earned a bachelor of fine arts degree from the University of Chile in Santiago in 2004, and a bachelor of arts degree from Evergreen State College in Olympia in 2010, and a master of fine arts degree at the University of Washington in 2012.

He has had one-person exhibitions at the Frye Art Museum; the Ulrich Museum of Art, Wichita, Kansas; and the Museo de Arte Contemporàneo, Santiago, Chile. Valenzuela has completed residencies at the Bemis Center for Contemporary Art, Omaha; the Museum of Fine Arts Houston; Vermont Studio Center; and The Center for Photography, Woodstock, New York. He has received awards from Artist Trust, 4Culture, and The Stranger’s Genius Award as well as Guggenheim and Smithsonian Fellowships. His work is in the collections of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, the Frye Art Museum, Microsoft, and Tacoma Art Museum.
