Fletcher Martin

BiographyFletcher Martin was a self-taught artist known for his western and boxing images. He moved from town to town working a variety of jobs often as a printer or commercial artist. In 1938, he began a thirty-year career as a visiting teacher in art schools in California including Mills College, Otis Art Institute, and Claremont College. During World War II he served as a war correspondent for Life magazine in North Africa. Over the course of his career, he exhibited work at shows all over the United States and his prints were acquired for numerous museum collections including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Whitney Museum of American Art, and Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
