BiographyHoward Cook is considered one of America’s premier printmakers. He trained at the Art Students League in New York then traveled extensively in Europe, North Africa, Asia, and Central America on assignment as illustrator for several magazines including Scribner’s and Harper’s. After a trip to New Mexico in 1926, he settled in Taos in 1934.During the 1930s, Cook twice earned Guggenheim Fellowships for painting and was commissioned to create several large fresco murals including a sixteen- part cycle for the main post office in San Antonio. During World War II, he was an artist and war correspondent in the South Pacific. Cook also was a popular and distinguished teacher at universities across the country.
