Karl Kaufmann

BiographyKarl Kaufmann was known as an Orientalist painter, creating numerous romanticized views of life in Middle Eastern countries. He was particularly fond of views of Venice that presented the city as the gateway to and from the Middle East. He painted both city and rural views as well as landscapes. He had several pseudonyms including Henri Carnier, C. Carlo, F. Gilbert, Charles Marchand, and Charles Marchant.
