BiographyTheodore Richardson trained at Boston Normal Art School and later traveled and studied art in Europe. He served as supervisor of drawing in the public schools in Minneapolis for many years. Richardson made a trip to Sitka, Alaska in 1884 and fell in love with the region. The state became his primary subject which he visited every year until his death. His watercolors and range from landscape views of the coastal mountains of Southeast Alaska, to scenes of Tlingit villages.

Richardson’s work is represented in the collections of a number of major institutions, including the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Fogg Museum at Harvard, and the Glenbow Museum in Calgary, Alberta.
