Dean Richardson studied at the Newark Academy of Fine Arts, Rhode Island School of Design, Brooklyn Museum School and Hochschule fur Bildende Kunst, in Berlin, Germany. He has been a Fulbright Scholar, received a fellowship from the Guggenheim Museum, and the Max Beckman Memorial Scholarship. He has had numerous prestigious shows including exhibits at the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Boston Institute of Contemporary Art, and the Corcoran Museum of Art. His work has been widely collected and is included in a number of museum, corporate, and private collections across the United States.

Richardson started his career as a landscape artist but became interested in American myths and legends which subsequently became his focus. His subjects are those who have shaped American culture in various ways.
