Christian Adolf Schreyerborn Frankfurt, Germany, 1828; died Kronberg im Taunus, Germany, 1899

Adolf Schreyer was a landscape and animal painter, known primarily for his images of horses. He studied at the Institute Staedel Frankfurt as well as the Academy in Dusseldorf. After an extensive trip to Paris and North Africa, he settled in Paris where he lived from 1862 to 1871. He later returned to Frankfurt. His trip through North Africa inspired his later Orientalist scenes that drew on the lifeways, clothing, and imagery he saw on his travels.
