BiographyMichael Spafford received his Master of Arts degree from Harvard University in 1960 and relocated to Seattle to teach painting at the University of Washington. He has been a Professor of Art at the University of Washington, Seattle for 30 years.

Spafford was a Fellow at the American Academy in Rome from 1967 through 1969, received a Neddy Artists Fellowship in 1996 and a Flintridge Foundation Award in 2005. He has had solo exhibitions at Bellevue Art Museum (1991), Cheney Cowles Museum, Spokane (now Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture) (1994), and the Hallie Ford Museum of Art, Salem (1999). His work is included in the Microsoft Art Collection, Washington State Art Collection, City of Seattle Portable Works Collection, Seattle Art Museum, and Tacoma Art Museum. He has received commissions from the Seattle Opera House, the King County Public Art Collection, and the State of Washington.
