Jay Steensmaborn Moscow, Idaho, 1941; died Seattle, Washington, 1994

Jay Steensma attended the University of Washington School of Art starting in 1959. After graduating he worked briefly as a collections intern at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, then returned ot Seattle where he taught at Cornish College of the Arts.

He created a large body of work but did not exhibit much due to personal struggles until the 1980s. Museum holdings include Smithsonian Institution; University of Oregon; Tacoma Art Museum; Seattle Art Museum; Cheney Cowles; and Humboldt Cultural Center, Eureka, California.
