BiographyIsidoro Ocampo was born in Veracruz, Mexico. His father was a lighthouse keeper so his early years were spent in lighthouses on the Pacific Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico. At the age of 5, he began attending school in Mexico City. Though his father wanted him to study business, Ocampo decided at age 18 to become an artist. He attended classes at San Carlos Academy in Mexico City and went on to become a teacher and book illustrator. In 1937 he helped found the Taller Grafica Popular (Popular Graphics Workshop). Though he was a painter as well as printmaker he is best known for his extensive body of engravings, lithographs, and other print media.
