Ángel Bracho

Angel Bracho was born in Mexico City in 1911 and studied art at the Academy of San Carlos and the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). In 1934, he was a founding member of the Liga de Escritores y Artistas Revolucionarios (LEAR), and in 1937 became a founding member of the Taller de Grafica Popular (TGP). He made murals in Sinaloa, and along with Alfredo Zalce in Puebla, Mexico. In 1945 he published "Ritos de Los Indios Huicholes" a portfolio of lithographs about the life and rituals of the Huichol indians who he had lived with for a number of years. His work has been exhibited in Mexico, the United States, Europe, and South America. In 1960, he was awarded the gold medal at the Buenos Aires Biennial. There have been two solo exhibitions of his work at the Casa de la Cultura in Michoacan in 1979 and the TGP in 1987.
