BiographyAlex Schweder’s training as an architect has prepared him well for his explorations of the relationship of bodies and occupied spaces and the various metaphors of the human body as a porous site. Schweder earned a bachelor of architecture from Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, in 1993 and a master of architecture from Princeton University in 1998. Some of the significant moments of his career occurred in Tacoma, including a major commission, Lovelorn Walls, at the Tacoma Trade and Convention Center and Melting Instructions at Tacoma Art Museum. Schweder was the 2005 Fellow in Architecture at the American Academy in Rome, and he was the 2009 Artist in Residence at the Chinati Foundation in Marfa, Texas. He has been featured in the publications Modern Painters, Artforum, and the New York Times.
