Peter de Lory

born Orleans, Massachusetts, 1948
BiographyPhotographer Peter de Lory received his BFA from the San Francisco Art Institute and MFA from the University of Colorado. In 1976 he became Director of the Photography Department of the Sun Valley Center for the Arts and Humanities in central Idaho. From 1979 to 1995 he taught photography at various institutions including The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, San Jose State University, the San Francisco Art Institute, and the University of New Mexico as well as in numerous workshop settings. He relocated to the Pacific Northwest in 1994. Here, he has produced several extensive bodies of work for Sound Transit and Seattle Public Utilities as well as continuing his explorations of the West and its mythologies and histories through landscape.

Peter de Lory has exhibited frequently at museums throughout the United States, Japan, and Canada and his work has been published in Aperture and Camerawork. His photographs have been collected by numerous museum, university, and corporate collections across the United States.
