Orville K. Chattborn 1924; died Sedro Woolley, Washington, 2007
Orville Chatt received his BFA from the Art Institute of Chicago and his MFA from Drake University. He moved to the Puget Sound area in 1964 to become head of the Humanities Department at Skagit Valley Community College, Mount Vernon, WA. He exhibited his jewelry widely during his lifetime and was active in both regional and national Arts and Crafts Councils and Fairs. He is the author of the book "Design is Where You Find It' published in 1972 by Iowa State University Press.
Chatt’s jewelry wasdeeply influenced by the mainstream trends in studio art jewelry of the 1950s and 1960s. This style made strong reference to abstract styles of painting and sculpture, such as surrealism, cubism, and abstract expressionism.
