Albert Paley

born Philadelphia, Pennslyvania, 1944
BiographyAlbert Paley attended the Tyler School of Art, Philadelphia, graduating with a BFA in sculpture in 1966 and continuing on to an MFA in goldsmithing. He began working as a jeweler then moved in to larger scale freestanding sculpture and site-specific works that were often integrated with architecture. In 1998 Paley was asked by Dante Marioni to collaborate with him at Pilchuck Glass School. His time their inspired his own future use of glass and metal. Paley’s body of work includes more than 50 site specific sculptures across the U.S. He is the first metal sculptor to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award from the American. A retrospective of his glass and steel sculptures is currently on view at the Museum of Glass.
