John Lewis

BiographyJohn Lewis was a graduate student in architecture at the University of California, Berkeley when he was introduced to blown glass by professor Marvin Lipofsky. He opened his own hot glass studio in the San Francisco Bay area in 1969 and went on to achieve an MA in Design. After receiving an NEA grant in 1980 he began experimenting with cast glass as a sculptural medium. In additional to sculptures he has collaborated on a number of site-specific architectural projects creating both functional objects and large-scale sculptures and his studio is now one of the largest private glass studios in the U.S.
