Peggy Bacon

BiographyPeggy Bacon was a printmaker, illustrator and children’s book author who later turned exclusively to painting. Both of her parents were artists and encouraged her interest. She studied at the Art Students League between 1914 and 1920 with social realists John Sloan, Jonas Lie, and George Bellows. During the 1920s, she had two one-woman shows in New York and also illustrated and wrote numerous children's books. A satirical work by her on thirty-nine well-known fellow artists, written in 1934 and called Off With Their Heads, was funded by the Guggenheim Foundation and showcased her gentle, satirical style.
