Wanda Gág

BiographyWanda Gág was primarily known as an author and illustrator of children’s books but also created a large and important body of prints. She began illustrating stories at an early age; when she was only 17 her drawings were included in an exhibition organized by the Minneapolis School of Art. She studied art at the St. Paul School of Art and the Minneapolis School of Art and later at the Art Students League in New York City. Her drawings and prints were exhibited extensively across the United States during her lifetime and can be found in museum collections in America and Europe. She specialized in scenes from everyday life and from folktales. Gág published her art school diaries under the title Growing Pains in 1940.
