Terry Turrell

born Spokane, Washington, 1946
BiographyTerry Turrell is a self-taught artist who uses a variety of recycled and found materials in his work. He creates both paintings and sculptures, generally gravitating to figurative subjects. Though he constantly made artwork as a child, Turrell did not begin exhibiting his work until he was in his 30s. Turrell grew up around Spokane and Coeur d’Alene. After time in San Francisco he settled in Seattle in the 1970s holding down a variety of jobs from writing to making t-shirts. He began to show work at a variety of venues during this period and attracted a collector base. Turrell now shows with galleries in New York and Atlanta that specialize in “outsider” art and with Grover-Thurston in Seattle.
