Carlos Andresonborn Midvale, Utah, 1904; died Salt Lake City, Utah, 1978

Carlos Andreson was born in Salt Lake City, Utah and trained at the University of Utah. He went on to study in Los Angeles, New York, and Paris. He returned to the United States in 1933 and worked for the Federal Art Project under the Works Progress Administration. After World War II, he moved to San Francisco and became associated with the San Francisco Civic League, working on a number of commissions including a variety of works for the US Navy and the Oakland Army Base.

As an adult, he deliberately changed the spelling of his name from Anderson to Andreson in order to stand out from other artists with the same last name.
