Jiri Suhájek

born Pardubice, Czechoslovakia, 1943
BiographyJiri Suhájek studied at the Secondary School of Glassmaking in Kamenicky Senov, then worked at the Moser glassworks in Karlovy Vary in 1962. In 1964 he continued his studies with Stanislav Libensky at the Academy of Applied Arts in Prague, and later at the Royal College of Art in London. In 1971 he studied at the glassworks in Italy (Venini, Murano and Venice) and in Amsterdam.

In 1979 he began working as a glass designer with the Institute of Interior and Fashion Design in Prague then went on to be art director at the Bohemia Art Glass Ltd in Vsetin. He later taught at the Secondary School of Glassmaking in Valasske Mezirici and the University of Tomas Bata in Zlín. He has exhibited broadly in Europe and the U.S. and received numerous awards.
