BiographyBoardman Robinson was known as a cartoonist and illustrator for various well-known newspapers and magazines including Harpers, the Tribune, The New York Times, and the New York Morning Telegraph. Born in Nova Scotia, and raised in Wales, he came to the United States to attend the Massachusetts Art School. Later in Paris he studied the work of the French political cartoonist Honoré Daumier (French, 1808–1879) who had a lasting impact on his work. Robinson began teaching at the Art Students League in New York around 1915. He was a major supporter of liberal political causes and contributor to leftist publications and was at one point charged with violating the Espionage Act. He later founded and directed the Broadmoor Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
