David Hilliard

born Lowell, Massachusetts, 1964
BiographyDavid Hilliard received his BFA from Massachusetts College of Art in 1992 and his MFA from Yale University in 1994. In addition to his photography work he has been a visiting lecturer at numerous schools including Harvard University, Dartmouth College, and the Massachusetts College of Art & Design. He has received several prestigious awards including a Fulbright Grant and a Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship.

Hilliard’s work has been exhibited at numerous institutions including Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, The Kemper Art Museum, St Louis, the Addison Museum of American Art, and the DeCordova Museum, Lincoln, Massachusetts and has been collected by institutions including the Whitney Museum of American Art, Art Institute of Chicago, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and Philadelphia Museum of Art. His large-scale, multi-paneled, color photographs present complex narratives that explore a range of themes and situations in his life and the lives of those around him.
