Lynda Barry

BiographyCartoonist, writer, editor and teacher Lynda Barry grew up in Seattle. While attending The Evergreen State College she met fellow cartoonist Matt Groening. Her first works were published in 1977in the University of Washington Daily under the title “Ernie Pook’s Comeek.” Shortly thereafter the Chicago Reader picked up her comic launching her national career. Collections of her comics began being published in 1981 and by 1989 her strip appeared weekly in more than 50 publications nationally. Barry also has published two illustrated novels one of which has been adapted into a play. She has also published three books about the creative processes of writing and drawing.
