Hideho Tanaka

born Chiba, Chiba Prefecture, Japan, 1942
BiographyHideho Tanaka is known for his sculptures made of industrial fibers that explore the boundaries between the handmade and manufactured. Tanaka studied at Musashino Art School (presently Musashino Art University), Tokyo graduating from the Department of Craft and Industrial Design in 1964. In 1978 he spent time at the Jack Lenor Larsen Design Studio and the Fashion Institute of Technology and in 1987 participated in an artist exchange program at the Banff Center School of Fine Art. For many years he was a Professor at Musashino Art University and Director of the Japan Textile Design Society. His work has been exhibited in numerous venues in Japan, Europe, and the United States and has been collected by institutions all over the world. The Musashino Art University Museum held a retrospective of his work in 2012 in honor of his retirement.
