Michael Lucero

born Tracy, California, 1953
BiographySculptor Michael Lucero earned a BA degree from Humboldt State University in 1975 and an MFA from the University of Washington in 1978. He taught briefly at New York University and the Parsons School of Design. In the late 1980s, he turned from polychrome clay to cast metal and then began to incorporate both mediums. In 1993 he became the Richard Koopman Distinguished Chair in the Visual Arts, University of Hartford, CT and in 2003 the Lamar Dodd Professorial Chair, University of Georgia, Lamar Dodd School of Art.

His work is included in private and museum collections in the U.S. and abroad including the Museum of Art + Design and Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and the National Museum of Contemporary Art, Seoul, Korea among others. He also has received awards including several National Endowment for the Arts Fellowships.
