Bob Kuhn

born Buffalo, New York, 1920; died Tucson, Arizona, 2007
BiographyWildlife painter Bob Kuhn got his first experience drawing animals at the zoo in his hometown of Buffalo, New York. He went on to study anatomy, life drawing, and design at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York, and became a successful illustrator. Kuhn decided to devote himself to easel painting in 1970 and began traveling extensively through North America, Canada, Alaska, and even Africa to observe his animal subjects. Noted for his ability to capture both the animal and the landscape’s character and individuality, Kuhn believed that painting from life was the best way to achieve a successful image. He was a member of the Society of Animal Artists and the National Academy of Western Art.
