Jaroslav Brychta attended the Provincial School of Crafts in Litomyšl, Czechoslovakia for three years then studied sculpture in the School of Applied Arts in Prague. In 1920 he moved to Železný Brod and began working at the new State Vocational Glassmaking and Business School. He experimented with a variety of glassmaking techniques and designs and was particularly know for his glass figures. In 1950 he was appointed director of the High School of Applied Arts for Glassmaking in Železný Brod. In 1965 he was awarded the title of Merited Artist by the nation. He was the father of glass artist Jaroslava Brychtova.
