Bill Owenborn Gila Bend, Arizona, 1942; died Kirkland, Arizona, 2013

Bill Owen’s mother was an artist and his father a cowboy. These influences shaped his desire to be an artist with a focus on the cowboy lifestyle. Owen was self-taught learning by experimentation and observation. His work was exhibited at venues as varied as the Whitney Museum in Cody, Wyoming, the Grand Palais in Paris, France, and the Western Art Show in Beijing, China. In 1993 he was awarded the “Frederic Remington Award for Artistic Merit” by the Cowboy Hall of Fame and in 2003 he received the Great American Cowboy Award from the Prix de West Invitational Exhibition. Owen was an active member of the Cowboy Artists of America, serving as president three times and earning numerous medals and awards at the annual show.
