Rachel Brumer

born Oakland, California, 1956
BiographyRachel Brumer has been making art quilts since 1990. Prior to that time she had a career as a dancer with Bill Evans troupe in Seattle and Mark Morris in New York. She also worked as an American Sign Language Interpreter for several years and both experiences are incorporated into aspects of her artwork.

Brumer received her BFA from Mills College, Oakland, California in 1978. She received Artist Trust Gap Grants in 1997 and 2000. She won awards at Fiberart International in 1999 and 2013 and won the Quilt National, Juror’s Award of Merit in 2003. Her work can be found in the collections of the American Craft Museum, Seattle Art Museum, The Brakensiek Collection of Contemporary Quilts, Los Angeles and Washington State Arts Commission, Art in Public Places collection among others.
