Ken Shores

Ken Shores received his Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Oregon in 1957. Originally a painter, after he became interested in clay as a medium, he spent two summers in Northern California studying with the renowned potter Marguerite Wildenhain.

In the 1960s, in addition to his work as a professional artist, Shores became director of the Oregon Ceramics Studio in Portland (now Museum of Contemporary Craft) and also began teaching at Lewis and Clark College in Portland, a position he occupied until 1995. Shores also traveled extensively and was an avid collector, both of which experiences influenced the development of his own artwork. The Museum of Contemporary Craft held a retrospective exhibition of his long and influential career in 2008.
