LaVerne Krauseborn Portland, Oregon, 1924; died Eugene, Oregon, 1987
LaVerne Krause received her bachelor's degree from the University of Oregon in 1946 and later also studied at Portland's Museum Art School. Her earlier more realistic style gave way to abstraction in the late 1950s. In 1959 she began teaching at the Museum Art School and also at the Arts and Crafts Society (now Oregon College of Art and Crafts) in Portland. In 1966 she joined the faculty at the University of Oregon, Eugene where she taught until 1986 and developed the printmaking program. She also was a founder of Oregon Artists Equity and helped establish the Northwest Print Council. In 1980 she received the Oregon Governor's Art Award.
