Toots Zynsky
Toots Zynsky received her BFA in ceramics from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1973, where she studied with Dale Chihuly. She was part of the original group who founded Pilchuck Glass School in 1971 then in 1980 became assistant director and head of the hot shop at the New York Experimental Glass Workshop (now Urban Glass) in New York City. From 1983 to 1999 she lived in Amsterdam and Paris establishing a studio and traveling to various European glass centers for training and inspiration. She returned to live and work in Providence, Rhode Island in 1999.
Her work has been exhibited and collected internationally and she has won numerous awards including the 2013 Glass in Venice Award from the Istituto Veneto di Scienze, Lettre ed Arti , a Visionary Award from the Smithsonian in 2015 and James Renwick Alliance Masters of the Medium award in 2017.
