Harold Balazs

born Westlake, Ohio, 1928; died Spokane, Washington, 2017
BiographyHarold Balazs began his studies as an aeronautical engineer but changed to art. He attended Washington State College (now WSU), where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1951. He did some teaching in Spokane immediately after graduation but stopped to pursue his art career full time.

Balazs created a number of commissions for public buildings often using enamel on steel. He served for three terms as a Washington State Arts Commissioner during which time he helped draft Washington State's "Percent for Art" legislation.
