Carl Max Schultheissborn Nuremberg, Germany, 1885; died New York State, 1961

Carl Max Schultheiss was a painter, illustrator, engraver, and etcher. He received his early art training in Germany before immigrating to the United States in the 1930s. He rapidly involved himself in the American art scene joining a number of groups including the Society of American Etchers and National Academy of Design in New York and exhibiting widely at institutions including the Carnegie Institute, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Library of Congress. The Corcoran Gallery of Art held a one-person show of his work in 1946.
