Ernest Fieneborn Elberfeld, Germany, 1894; died Paris, France, 1965

Ernest Fiene (German, 1894–1965) created works in many media but was noted primarily for his landscapes of American scenes. He also did portraits, etchings, lithographs, murals and book illustrations. After emigrating to the United States from Germany in 1912, he studied at the National Academy of Design; he also trained at the Art Students League, New York, and in Paris at the Academie de la Grande Chaumiere. Fiene also was a respected teacher spending much of his career at the National Academy of Design where he taught from 1938 to 1964.
