Byron Brattborn Everett, Washington, 1952

Byron Bratt was born in Everett, Washington and studied printmaking at Western Washington University and the University of Washington. In 1976 he moved to New York to study at the Pratt Institute. His works have been acquired by the Library of Congress, Oregon Art Commission and Pratt Graphics Center through purchase prizes and are in the collection of the New York Public Library, Columbia Museum of American Art, Brooklyn Art Museum and The Ameican Museum in Bath, England among others. He has exhibited at galleries in Washington State and across the U.S. and in Japan. There was a solo exhibition of his work at the Frye Art Museum in 1997

Bratt specializes in mezzotint and his works have become more complex over the course of his career. His images have a surrealist edge and often contain symbolic messages. He regularly includes quotes from or references to the past in the form of old-fashioned objects or outdated technologies.
