Anthony Friedkin began taking and developing photographs as a young boy. He attended Santa Monica City College for a year then in 1969 transferred to the Art Center College of Design with a concentration in photography. During 1971-1972, he also attended the University of California, Los Angeles as a photography major. Friedkin began his professional photography career as a still photographer for the film industry and as a photojournalist. He later taught photography at both UCLA and California Institute of the Arts.

Friedkin is an internationally recognized photographer with work in the permanent collections of the J. Paul Getty Museum, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, The Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the George Eastman House in Rochester among others in the U.S. as well as public and private collections in Asia and Europe. He documents the social landscape with in-depth photo essays.
