Nicolai Cikovsky began his studies at the Vilna Art School and Penza Royal Art School in his native Russia. He emigrated to New York in 1923 and began showing at the Charles Daniels Gallery. He was best known for his landscapes and figurative works. He was an active exhibitor and won a number of prizes for his work. In addition to his painting, Cikovsky served as an instructor at the Cincinnati Art Academy, Art Institute of Chicago, Art Students League in New York, and Corcoran School of Art in Washington, D.C.
