Laura Wessel
After studying film, painting and literature at The Evergreen State College, Laura Wessel became a videographer at the Pilchuck Glass School and was responsible for creating films documenting the work of visiting artists. While at Pilchuck, she studied traditional painting on glass with Lithuanian glass master Albinas Elskus. Her involvement within a community of international artists including Stanislav Libensky, Dana Zamecnikova, and Bertil Vallien challenged her to see glass as a luminous canvas for creating images that evoke a complex narrative. She completed her MA in Glass at the University of Sunderland, England, in 2004. Her work has appeared in 45 shows in the Pacific Northwest and five around the world in China, Hong Kong, England, and Portugal. Her work is in the collection of the Marinha Grande Museum of Glass, Portugal, the print collection of the Pilchuck Glass School, and 16 private collections.
