Orlando S. Goff

Based out of the Dakota Territory in the late 19th century, Orlando S. Goff originally hailed from Connecticut. He served in the U.S. Army during the Civil War before embarking on a career as a photographer. His work as a photographer took him west where he opened a gallery in 1871 in Yankton, then capital of the Dakota Territory. He later opened a photography studio in Bismarck, gaining notoriety for his photographs of such leaders as George Armstrong Custer, Chief Joseph, and Sitting Bull. Following his retirement his studio went to his apprentice David Frances Berry. Goff moved to Boise with his wife where he passed away in 1916.
