Alan Lau

Alan Lau received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of California, Santa Cruz in 1976 and studied sumi-e (ink painting) with Nirakushi Toriumi in Kyoto, Japan. The Wing Luke Museum of the Asian American Experience held a solo exhibition of his work in 1998. In 2014, Lau was named Cultural Ambassador through the Seattle Mayor’s Arts Awards and recently he received a 2015 Individual Support Grant from the Adolph & Esther Gottlieb Foundation. In addition to painting, he is also a nationally acclaimed poet, and arts writer for the International Examiner.
