Joan Stuart Rossborn Boston, Massachusetts, 1942

Joan Stuart Ross graduated from Boston Latin School and Connecticut College. She studied Printmaking & Color Theory at Yale University, and earned both an M.A. and M.F.A. in Painting & Printmaking from the University of Iowa where she studied with Mauricio Lasansky. She has lived, worked and taught printmaking in Seattle and the Northwest for many years. She specializes in encaustic/collage painting and in multi-layered monotype-collage printmaking.

Ross has received residencies and fellowships in Europe and the United States and the Betty Bowen Award (Seattle Art Museum), Kathe Kollwitz award, and a Fulbright-Hays travel grant to Vietnam. She has exhibited her work nationally and internationally. Her artwork is included in numerous regional collections.
