Curt Walters

BiographyCurt Walters grew up in New Mexico and is a modern plein air impressionist painter. Though he has traveled extensively and painted landscapes both in the United States and internationally, Walters is best known for his images of the Grand Canyon. He first visited the canyon when he was 19 and it has since become the major focus of his career. Returning to the canyon year after year, Walters was surprised to see that his paintings recorded increasing air pollution over a period of several years. He subsequently became a conservation activist, fighting to reduce pollution and protect the areas around the canyon. Walters began working with the Grand Canyon Trust in the 1990s, helping them to raise funds by donating artwork. Walters lives and works in Sedona, Arizona, where he uses field studies to create large-scale, strikingly detailed landscapes.
