Richard La Londe
Richard La Londe was born in 1950, grew up in Vancouver, Washington and lives on Whidbey Island. In 1972, he graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in geology but immediately went into art.
He began fusing glass in an electric kiln in 1981. He taught fusing for Bullseye Glass in Portland in glass facilities around the United States and in Canada from 1983 - 1988. In 1985 he taught at the Pilchuck Glass School.
In the mid 1980s he began to create pictorial murals and handkerchief vessels for which he is known. In 1984 the Corning Museum of Glass purchased one of his early vessels for its collection and he also created his first public fused glass mural for the Washington State Arts Commissiont. He continues to teach, exhibit in galleries, and create public and private commissions. (Adapted from the artist's website, 11/16/2012)
