Norman Courtneyborn New Orleans, Louisiana, 1947; died Seattle, Washington, 2017

Norman Courtney was an important figure in the Seattle glass community. He founded and directed the glass program at Pratt Fine Art Center and taught several generations of students. He also served on the faculty at Pilchuck from 1974 until 1992.

Courtney learned sandcasting from Bertil Vallien in Sweden and was the first to bring it to Pilchuck.

Courtney also created a number of public artworks around the Seattle area, most notably at Kent City Hall.
