Bachelor of Arts, Western Washington University, Bellingham, WA 1978; also studied at University of Copenhagen and University of Washington.

Owns Mahaffey Fine Art in Portland, OR with her husband Mark Mahaffey.

Mahaffey has exhibited her work primarily in galleries on the West Coast and at institutions such as the Portland Art Museum, Boise Art Museum, and the Oregon State University, OR. She also has completed several public commissions in Texas, Washington, Oregon, and Colorado.
