Utagawa Kunihisaborn Japan, 1832; died Japan, 1891
A student of Toyokuni III, Kunihisa Utagawa worked during the second half of the 19th century. He married one of Toyokuni III’s daughters and was adopted into the family. Active during the transitional years from the Edo Period to the Meiji Period, he produced Yokohama-e, actor prints, and bijin-ga, or “pictures of beautiful women.”
