Painter Art Hansen received his first art training at Ballard High School under Orre Nobles. He graduated from the University of Washington with a B.A. in 1952 and received an M.F.A. from University of Minnesota in 1957. In 1953 he received a Fulbright scholarship to study at the Munich Academy of the Arts.
After graduation he settled on Vashon Island and spent much of the rest of his career there. He was fascinated with the Northwest environment and it was the subject of much of his work.
