Elizabeth Sandvig
Elizabeth Sandvig is a distinguished artist and important figure in the Northwest cultural community. She was born in Seattle and raised in Washington D.C. and Mexico City. After receiving a B.A. at Pomona College and an M.A. at Harvard University, she spent three years in Mexico City making and exhibiting work. In 1963 she returned to Seattle and in 1966 had her first exhibition at the Francine Seders Gallery. She has work in numerous museums and corporate collections as well as in public spaces. She has exhibited professionally in Seattle, Portland, Washington D.C., and Mexico City among others. An autobiographical book about her work , titled I Surprise Myself, The Art of Elizabeth Sandvig was published in 2007 by the University of Washington Press.
